Following was sent to Indiana Representative Trey Hollingsworth (IN-09), and to Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun. At this point, it is clear Trump has committed criminal acts as President, by extorting Ukraine officials to engage in efforts to attack Joe Biden. That the GOP continues to support Trump is a betrayal of their oath to the Constitution and its defense. They have abandoned all pretense of adhering to the rule of law.
Just quoting today’s editorial summarizing Trump’s acts in 40 sentences in NYTimes by David Leonhardt.
Each day that passes and Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, fail to remove this man from office, is another step towards the destruction of the Republic, and the utter destruction of the rule of law under a Constitution, with balance of powers that are supposed to protect against the rise of a lawless autocrat.
I will certainly do all in my power to encourage everyone I know to NOT vote for any member of the Republican party, ever again, in my life (or what little remains of it). At age 73, I never dreamed I would live to see the destruction of our democratic system and the total disregard for the rule of law that was the shining foundation of the Republic admired around the world. Right now, we are the laughing stock of the world, and all other nations trust nothing we do are say. Thanks to Donald Trump. And the GOP who continue to enable him.
Following quoted in full in email to Congress, from today’s NYTimes, just a selection from the 40 statements in the OpEd quoted below:
Sometimes it’s worth stepping back to look at the full picture.
He has pressured a foreign leader to interfere in the 2020 American presidential election.
He urged a foreign country to intervene in the 2016 presidential election.
He divulged classified information to foreign officials.
He genuflects to murderous dictators.
He tells new lies virtually every week — about the economy, voter fraud, even the weather.
He has repeatedly denigrated a deceased United States senator who was a war hero.
He insulted a Gold Star family — the survivors of American troops killed in action.
He told four women of color, all citizens and members of Congress, to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”
He attempts to undermine any independent source of information that he does not like, including judges, scientists, journalists, election officials, the F.B.I., the C.I.A., the Congressional Budget Office and the National Weather Service.
He is the president of the United States, and he is a threat to virtually everything that the United States should stand for.
