This site is my personal effort to document the current crisis in American politics and society that has occurred during the presidency of George W. Bush and V.P. Dick Cheney.
This nation’s very existence as a democratic republic functioning under a rule of law grounded in our Constitution and Bill of Rights has been attacked by this administration from the moment they took office.
They and their supporters in the Republican Party have legislated acts and put them into law which undermine and are antithetical to our Constitution and every tradition we as Americans thought was our birthright. This includes outrages like the Patriot Act, the Military Commission Acts, and the various abdications of Congress’ War Powers embodied in so-called ‘enabling legislation’, that the Executive has then proceeded to use to launch preemptive, illegal, and non-justified wars against other sovereign nations, specifically Iraq.
From the moment they took office, Bush and Cheney have tried to destroy Posse Comitatus, the principle established after the Civil War in legislation to specifically forbid the use of the military in domestic law enforcement.
At the end of 2007 they finally accomplished this, along with their abolition of the protections of Habeas Corpus, the most fundamental element of common law protection of citizens, with roots that go back to the Magna Carta in English law.
Most despicable of all, this administration has consciously with forethought promulgated and encouraged the use of torture on prisoners held by American forces. By doing so they have violated our own laws, military procedures and guidelines, and multiple treaties. They have destroyed our standing in the world. They have demonstrated they are totally lacking in ethics and morality.
And worst of all, they have encouraged the rise of militant Islamic terrorism worldwide, and left this nation less safe and more threatened than before they took office, or before the tragic attack on America on September 11th, 2001.
There is no doubt in my mind that this administration, and this Republican party and their pathetic enablers in the Democratic Party will be remembered by history as the worst administration in the history of this nation.
