Funny how states rights suits the GOP when it suits them. Rep. Trey Hollingsworth R IN-09 has a poll up.
Hoosiers,
This week, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on more funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a forgivable small business loan program through the U.S. Small Business Administration. Within two weeks, the PPP program approved 1.6 million in loans for small businesses across the country and has now been depleted.
As Congress works to create and pass legislation to increase PPP funding, some states are calling for more “unrestricted” aid funding from the federal government to be added to the PPP package. Governors, particularly from states like New York and Illinois that have limited rainy day funds and insolvent pension plans, have asked for billions more in funding. However, many are worried that extra “unrestricted” aid would not be used for coronavirus response efforts, but to bail out state budget short falls and pensions, unrelated to coronavirus.
Required 1.
Question of the Week: Should the federal government spend more money for unrestricted aid to states?
– Yes, states are on the frontlines of coronavirus and need more resources.
– No, I don’t want my tax money to be used to bail out another state.
– I don’t know.
– Other (share your thoughts).
My reply to the poll:
Why the hell not? Trump administration officials are throwing money down the open maws of corrupt banks, corporations, and allies like crazy. Funds intended for small businesses going to mega corporations and banks. Rampant corruption. Give it to the states to use on workers and the 99%, not the 1%. Thank God Indiana has a GOP Governor with a brain who has enforced social isolation and stay at home to stop the curve, by the way. Unlike Trey Hollingsworth, who wants old people to just die already.
