Romney Criticism of DNC Emblematic of GOP Disconnect from Reality

Mitt Romney is here emblematic of the core GOP supporters.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney slammed the start of the Democratic National Convention in an interview on Wednesday, referring to the Charlotte proceedings as a “celebration of failure” and going after Democrats for removing the word “God” and reference to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel from their platform language.

“I think their having removed purposefully God from their platform suggests a party which is increasingly out of touch with the mainstream of American people,” Romney said in an interview with Fox News. “I think this party is veering further and further away into an extreme wing that Americans don’t recognize.”

They have become totally disconnected from reality. They deny facts. They deny science. They ignore the CBO and leading economists on the budget. Their entire “plan” is rooted in misstatements and falsehoods, and has no actual policy built in, only the promise to further lower the taxes on the rich and further deregulate the corporate oligarchy.

They believe that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim Usurper ™, who was not born in the United States.

They believe he has a secret plan to take their guns. (Hey, I am a liberal with a license to carry, I know lying propaganda when I see it.) They wallow in ignorance, racism, homophobia, and sexism.

They have reduced themselves to a caricature, as has been so evident in their increasingly desperate efforts to be pithy and come up with catch phrases. My favorites last few days? Erikson’s Tweet that the DNC was an episode of “The Vagina Monologues.” If that does not sum up the evil the GOP and its supporters have become, then we are truly lost as a nation.

I have also enjoyed watching them buying pithy Twitter hashtags, only to have them completely fill up with anti-GOP posts, yet another illustration of how disconnected they are from reality. They are used to controlling the media and message, but that game is over.

Also, the only thing that bothered me about the whole God not in the platform episode was the fact that the leadership caved to Republican attempts to make an issue out of nonsense by the GOP and changed the wording.

The only reason that the Democratic party and Obama are running so strong right now is they finally appear to have gotten a clue, and have not hesitated to ignore the GOP crazy, and go after them in Democratic ads with both barrels of fact and energy. Now is not the time to stop, because the GOP has been repeatedly whining about how mean the Democrats are being to them. That just means they know they are losing. Keep it up, Democratic Party.
