I still remember the contempt shown the American people by the GOP starting during the Reagan presidency, when those protecting Reagan from the press simply began turning out the lights at his press conferences in 1984 and 1985, to shut the reporters up. Reagan’s reactions on two such occasions: “They turned out the lights. That tells me I can’t talk anymore” ; “My guardian says I can’t talk”.
It is almost impossible to believe that the GOP in the House of Representatives could sink any lower than the level of pond scum and worse than algae than they already have over the past few days, as they dither and kick 99% of the population in the face by refusing to extend the payroll tax holiday on average workers two months. Of course that extension is necessary because they refused to get a one year deal, because the Democrats finally showed some backbone, as did President Obama, and instead of caving completely, reached a point where they refused to allow any more concessions to be wrested from them, or any more meaningless legislation attached to the bill just to make the traveling freak circus the GOP has become pander to their most insane base.
But this week had to be a new nadir. When Democrat Stony Hoyer stood up in the house and asked to be recognized to call for a vote to extend the payroll tax, the GOP representative who was chairing the session refused to recognize Hoyer refused to recognize him. When Hoyer continued to speak, calling out the GOP on their failure to pass this simple two month extension, thus insuring a two percent rise in payroll taxes funding Social Security, those watchin on C-SPAN watched first the audio then the video die right before their eyes.
What more profound expression by the GOP of their sheer contempt for the people’s right to know, and for our American Democracy, could you ask?
Do I really have to explain to anyone how symbolic this is of the total corruption of the GOP? Of their total commitment to the corporate oligarchy and their K-Street Lobbyist money-masters and owners? And how totally, utterly, and completely they feel nothing but contempt for the vast majority of the American population who make up the dying middle class, the poor, the unemployed, those needing health care?
It occurs to me that one other reason they would oppose this is because since this tax relates to what is being paid ongoing into the social security trust fund, that money would immediately help insure the ongoing stability of Social Security. Since the GOP want desperately to destroy Social Security and Medicare, they of course would not want that to happen. To be honest, I opposed this tax holiday being related to payments into the trust fund at the time it was passed. The cuts should have come out of regular tax revenues. The poor and middle class certainly need a tax break a lot more than the most wealthy, who have made out like bandits under the Bush era tax cuts for them, which should be expired immediately.
If you wonder why I have a category on this site labeled ‘Police State America’, you need look no farther than at the actions of the GOP in cutting of the live C-SPAN feed to television viewers nationwide of the live proceedings in the House.
The GOP really does hate America. At least they hate 99% of the population. Except when exploiting them to increase profits of the 1%.
I wonder what the chances of a Reichstag Fire are here in America? False flag operations have always been a big hit among those who willingly seek to impose tyranny on their people.
A strange thing happened Wednesday morning on Capitol Hill.
As Rep. Stenny Hoyer (D-MD) attempted to call for a vote to extend a payroll tax cut to middle class and working Americans, his Republican colleagues adjourned the House and walked out of the chamber. And if that weren’t odd enough, it got even stranger: As Hoyer railed against them for failing to help working Americans, footage from C-SPAN went silent, then cut away.
Moments later, C-SPAN took to the Internet to explain that it wasn’t their doing, but someone working for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).
…
“We regret, Mr. Speaker, that you have walked off the platform without addressing the issue of critical importance to this country, and that is the continuation of the middle class tax cut, the continuation of unemployment benefits for those at risk of losing them, and a continuation of the access to doctors for all those 48 million seniors who rely on them daily for help.”And that’s when the audio cut out. Seconds later, footage faded to a shot of the capitol from outside.
Moments later, someone at C-SPAN took to Twitter and explained: “C-SPAN has no control over the U.S. House TV cameras – the Speaker of the House does.”
